Police question brother to fugitive murder suspect Kevin Kang’ethe

Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have questioned the brother of fugitive murder suspect Kevin Kang’ethe who escaped from police custody.

Kang’ethe’s brother was interrogated on Monday February 12, after police discovered he had a phone conversation with the suspect, shortly after escaping from Muthaiga Police Station.

A girlfriend to Kang’ethe’s brother has also been questioned, police have confirmed. 

According to the police, Kang’ethe escaped from police custody on February 7 with the help of his brother.

DCI detectives who are investigating the matter believe that the murder suspect met with his brother after escaping from custody.

The two allegedly met in Kiambu before partying, according to data from mobile phone service providers. 

As a result, several detectives have been dispatched to hunt for Kang’ethe and ensure he is arrested and arraigned in court.

His cousin and lawyer Beatrice Ng’ethe was arrested on Friday February 9, 2024 and detained for questioning.

Beatrice was detained briefly before being released on Sh100,000 police cash bail. She was linked to facilitating Kang’ethe’s escape from police custody. 

DCI sleuths picked Beatrice from her house in Kiambu on Friday morning as she was preparing breakfast.

She was arrested after phone records revealed that she was in communication with Kang’ethe days before he escaped from Muthaiga Police Station.

The lawyer has denied being involved in the matter as Police say she visited Kang’ethe at Muthaiga police station a day before he escaped from custody. 

The suspect is believed to be hiding in Nairobi as police say he is using mobile phone numbers registered by relatives.

Kenyan fugitive Kevin Kang’ethe is wanted in the United States for allegedly killing his girlfriend.

Kevin Kang’ethe was arrested on January 29, 2024, for being a suspect behind the murder of a 31-year-old Kenyan nurse Margaret Mbitu in the US.

Kang’ethe escaped at a time when the DCI in collaboration with the DPP were processing his extradition to the US where he is set to face murder charges.
