Police recover stolen 260 cows, 300 goats after Isiolo banditry attacks; two bandits shot dead in the process

Several banditry attacks occurred in Isiolo County over the weekend, with some people killed, others injured in the ensuing shootout between the bandits and police officers.

On Sunday, November 10 at around 2:30 am in Bojidare area, unknown number of armed bandits invaded Manyattas while shooting, and in the process, they stole about 250 cows and 300 goats.

National Police Service (NPS) officers — who included Kenya Police, ASTU, and NPR — trailed and recovered all the 300 goats plus 30 cows.

“During the incident, two people lost their lives, and three others were injured. The injured have been evacuated to Isiolo District Hospital for treatment, while the deceased handed over to the families for burial according to Muslim rites,” a report by the NPS states.

In a second incident at around 12:35 AM in Hola Bule area, unknown number of bandits armed with assault rifles invaded a home and started shooting, before stealing 19 herds of cattle.

NPS and NPR officers at the scene established that one man had been fatally shot, while two other persons including an NPR officer sustained gunshot wounds. All the 19 animals have been recovered, while the body has been moved to Isiolo County Hospital Mortuary for preservation.

Two bandits shot dead

In a third incident, two bandits were fatally shot in River Waso area, Samburu East, and a total of 211 stolen heads of cattle recovered.

Deputy Inspector General Administration Police Service, Gilbert Masengeli, and the Eastern Regional Security team arrived in Isiolo on Sunday, November 10 morning to assess the security situation and coordinate the operations in the area until peace and order are restored.

“Reinforcement teams from Isiolo Police Station, ASTU and NPR have been dispatched and investigations launched by DCI. NPS takes this opportunity to sincerely thank members of public for their assistance in these three operations,” NPS says.
