Police rescue woman who had been cornered by armed robbers in Mlolongo

In a daring confrontation, police officers from Mlolongo Police Station in Machakos County apprehended three members of a notorious gang, during a robbery with violence incident Thursday, May 23.

The officers, while on patrol near Cooperative Bank in Mlolongo Township, encountered the gang attacking a woman and swiftly intervened.

However, the criminals attempted to flee upon seeing the police, leading to a chase, three of them tried to escape in a suspected stolen vehicle, a Toyota Ractis with registration number KDA 730Y.

During the scuffle, the officers were met with resistance from the thugs, resulting in injuries.

Police Constable Okari sustained a swollen right eye, a cut on the head, and a dislocated right hand, while his colleague Kyallo suffered a swollen right leg near the knee. Another police officer, Constable Ndungu complained of chest pains.

The gang members, identified as John Maina Kinuthia, Alex Mutinda Mutuku, and Julius Owino Okoth, were found in possession of various incriminating items, such as tools for altering number plates, ten pieces of master keys, eight phones, three crowbars, and a panga.

The victim of the robbery, Lucy Nyaboke, a 33-year-old woman, was robbed of personal belongings including a phone, KSh11,000, a wristwatch, and identification documents.

Additionally, she sustained injuries to her face and hands during the attack.

The accused individuals are set to face charges for robbery with violence, assaulting police officers, resisting arrest, intent to commit a felony, and possession of suspected stolen property.

The stolen vehicle used by the gang has been detained pending verification of its details and ownership.
