Police save man, 53, from angry mob after ‘raping’ his 100-year-old mother

Police in Amuria district, eastern Uganda are holding a 53-year-old man for allegedly raping his 100-year-old mother.

The shocking incident reportedly occurred on September 8 at approximately 11pm.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga on Monday told journalists that the suspect, Otude James, recently separated from his wife and returned to his mother’s home.

The suspect reportedly found his elderly mother asleep in her grass-thatched home and attacked her.

“He tied the hands using a mosquito net and raped the mother,” Enanga narrated.

Otude left for Asamuk trading center in Amuria after the horrific ordeal where he spent the night.

Neighbours who got wind of the matter alerted the police who responded to their calls swiftly and combed through the scene of crime.

The house was in disarray with beddings scattered all over. Police were forced to restrain the furious locals who almost lynched the man.

They arrested Otude and took him to  Asamuk Health Center III for first aid and have samples taken to ascertain rape allegations.

Police spokesperson Enanga stated that the rape suspect would undergo mental examination pending his arraignment.

In April this year, British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) cast an eye on sexual abuse in Uganda. According to their findings, it was revealed that perpetrators of such acts are rarely convicted.
