Police attached to Mandera Mandera Police Station have intercepted a lorry loaded with 160 bags of uncustomed goods.
Operation to nab the illegal goods was initiated after police received a tip-off from members of the community in Siftu area, near the Kenya-Ethiopia Border.
The lorry, a Nissan Diesel UD with the registration number KBZ 248A, was stopped and inspected. During the inspection, the officers confirmed that the lorry was carrying 190 bags of sugar. Each bag weighed 25 kg, totaling a significant amount of uncustomed sugar.
This illegal product was then taken to Mandera Police Station, where it is now being held.
Customs officials from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) will conduct further inspections to ensure all protocols are followed.
