Police warn Bobi wine supporters ahead of his major event

Police have issued stern warning to supporters of National Unity Platform (NUP) party leader Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine against unlawful gatherings as he returns from Canada.

This was after reports emerged that NUP leaders were mobilizing supporters from different parts of Uganda to gather at Entebbe International Airport and along the major roads to welcome Bobi Wine.

Bobi Wine is expected to return on Thursday, September 5 from his international mobilization tours in South Africa and Canada.

Police have issued a stern warning to supporters of NUP party leader Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine (pictured) against unlawful gatherings as he returns from Canada.

Makindye Ssabagabo member of parliament (MP) David Sserukenya during a live interview on Tuesday, September 3, urged all NUP supporters to turn up for a mega welcome fete for Bobi Wine who has been out of the country for one month.

“Ugandans have decided to welcome our NUP president right from the airport to his residence,” said Sserukenya.

He added that the welcome fete was not a political event for Bobi Wine.

At the same time, Rubaga South MP Aloysius Mukasa urged individuals who will turn up for the welcoming event to be peaceful.

“I ask Bobi Wine supporters to respect traffic rules and security guidelines during this event,” noted Mukasa.

He also noted that the welcome event will be a trial to security organs in the country which are expected to exercise restraint as they control NUP supporters.

However, police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Luke Owoyesigyire said that security officers have not received any notice about the welcome event.

The police spokesperson warned that individuals found in illegal gatherings will be dealt with by the full force of the law.

“I am not aware of this Bobi Wine’s welcome back fete, and any unlawful procession will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” Owoyesigyire stated.

On the other hand, ICT Minister Chris Baryomunsi explained that the government has no plans to interfere with Bobi Wine’s welcome fete.

“We are not bothered by his comeback in any way. It is his supporters who think he is so important,” noted the ICT Minister.
