The Uganda Police Force has disputed allegations of arresting National Unity Platform Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine on Thursday, October 5.
This was after reports emerged that the NUP party leader was arrested upon arrival at the Entebbe International Airport.
“We wish to inform the public that the NUP President, Hon. Kyagulanyi Robert was successfully escorted by our security team from Entebbe to his home in Magere.”
“He reached his home around 11.20 am and is with his family and friends. Disregard rumors of his arrest by propagandists,” read part of a statement from the Uganda Police force.
The police further reported that business activities and movements along Entebbe Road, within Kampala and Gayaza, are flowing smoothly.

The police statement contradicts a report from the NUP party that had indicated Bobi Wine had been arrested.
“Our President (Bobi Wine) was detained by government operatives immediately upon his arrival at the airport,” read part of official communication from the party.
At the same time, the NUP party leader had posted on his X account, disclosing details of his arrest.
“Our President Kyagulanyi Ssentamu picked off the tarmac upon arrival at Entebbe Airport. Taken to an unknown destination!” Bobi Wine’s account posted.
Bobi Wine’s supporters had gathered along the roads, waiting to escort him to his residence even though the law enforcement authorities had declared such gatherings unlawful.
Upon landing at the airport, he was expected to lead a procession dubbed ‘one million march’ to Kampala city.

“It’s so unfortunate that police have denied Ugandans a chance to welcome our NUP president right from the airport to his residence,” said Makindye Ssabagabo MP Davidsaid Sserukenya.
He added that NUP supporters had intended to welcome their party leader in a peaceful manner.
