Police have launched investigations after a policeman attached to the residence associated with South Sudan President Salva Kiir in Nairobi allegedly shot his colleague.
Reports indicate that two police officers from Gigiri Police Station were on patrol in the area on Tuesday, February 25 night, when they came across a man smoking what they believed to be bhang (which is prohibited in Kenya) at the perimeter walls of the said residence.
When they approached him, the suspect reportedly stood up and started running away, defying their orders to stop. It was at this point that the suspect shot at the two officers.
“Officers on patrol came across the suspect sitting under the shade at the edge of [the] residence wall. As they approached him, the suspect started running away defying their orders to stop. He responded by firing at the officers whereby he shot one of them on his right hip,” a police report says, as reported by Nation.Africa.
The suspect vanished into the compound as the other officer tried to help his colleague. He is currently admitted at MP Shah Hospital where he is undergoing treatment.
Senior police officers are said to have visited the scene of crime, leading to the arrest of a General Service Unit (GSU) officer. His official Ceska pistol has also been confiscated.
