Pope Francis Prays for floods victims in Kenya

Pope Francis on Wednesday May 1, 2024 conveyed special prayers for the floods victims in Kenya, expressing his concern with the flooding situation in the country.

In the statement on his X account, the Pope noted that he was spiritually close to the people of Kenya and was praying for Kenyans.

The Pope also stated that he and the rest of the world would support affected Kenyans through prayers.

“I am spiritually close to the people of Kenya at this time when a severe flood has claimed many lives and destroyed vast areas.

“Let us pray together for all those who suffer the effects of this natural disaster,” stated Pope Francis.

He further noted that it was sad that innocent citizens lost their lives while others were displaced as property was destroyed by floods in different parts of Kenya.

The Pope released a statement, two days after the Mai Mahiu floods tragedy that killed more than 70 people, and more than 100 individuals displaced.

Several other Mai Mahiu floods victims are still receiving treatment in various hospitals in Naivasha and Nakuru.

This was after Kijabe dam burst its banks on Monday April 29, 2024, leading to floods that wiped out people from homes in Mai Mahiu, Nakuru County.
