Pope Francis showing signs of improvement, resumes work, Vatican says

Pope Francis is showing signs of improvement, with his kidney issues subsiding, this is according to the latest report by the Holy See Press Office.

According to the report on Wednesday, February 26 night (local time), a recent CT scan confirmed a normal progression of Pope’s lung inflammation, while the 88-year-old pontiff blood tests returned “good results”.

“The Holy Father’s condition has shown a slight further improvement over the past 24 hours. The mild kidney insufficiency observed in recent days has subsided. A chest CT scan carried out last night showed a normal progression of the lung inflammation. Blood tests conducted today confirmed the improvement seen yesterday,” the report said.

Doctors say that Pope Francis remains on high-flow oxygen therapy and did not experienced any asthma-like respiratory episodes on Wednesday.

However, respiratory physiotherapy is continuing, and despite the slight improvement, the Pope’s prognosis remains guarded.

On the same day, the Pope received the Eucharist in the morning, and in the afternoon, he resumed his work.

Since Monday, the Diocese of Rome and the Roman Curia have collaborated to organize nightly prayer events open to the public in St. Peter’s Square to pray for the pope’s recovery.
