Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was involved in an altercation on the pitch with FC Porto’s Manager Sergio Conceicao.
The altercation came at the end of a dramatic evening at the Emirates as Arsenal beat Porto 4-2 on penalties to reach a first Champions League quarter-final in 14 years.
Conceicao has now accused the Spaniard of insulting his family during the altercation.
In 2020, Conceicao also accused Pep Guardiola of being “unpleasant” and using “ugly words” during a defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League.
“During the game, [Arteta] turned to the bench and in Spanish – it must be a Spanish coach thing because it was the same thing with [Pep] Guardiola – he insulted my family,” said Conceicao.
“In the end I told him to pay attention because who he insulted is no longer with us, and to worry about coaching his team, because due to individual quality he has an obligation to do more and better.” he added.
Before Conceicao’s comments, Arteta was asked about the confrontation at the end and said: “No comment. Thank you very much.”
Arsenal sources on the other hand have strongly denied any offensive or insulting sentence towards the Porto manager and Arteta has refuted the allegations.
The first leg in Portugal saw Porto win 1-0, but Leandro Trossard’s goal in the 41st minute at Emirates Stadium levelled the tie, sending it to extra tine and then penalties.
