The Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK), also known as Posta Kenya, has clarified a confusion on the adjustment to its MPost virtual address system, effective July 5, 2024.
MPost, a product of the Kenyan tech startup MPost, allows users to convert their mobile numbers into virtual addresses, enhancing postal and e-commerce logistics.
An earlier notice issued by Posta Kenya CEO John Tonui had indicated that the subscription fee for corporate virtual boxes had skyrocketed from KSh400 to KSh9,450 per year.
However, Posta Kenya insists that it was a confusion on their part.
Posta Kenya’s statement
Posta Kenya says “We have noticed some confusion regarding our recent social media announcement about the new MPost charges. We would like to clarify the following…”
“The MPost virtual box service was initially on a pilot phase. With the successful completion of the pilot, the Postal Corporation of Kenya has now fully integrated this service,” Posta Kenya says, adding, “as a result, the charges have been aligned with the standard rates of our physical Private Letter Box services: Individual Physical Box: Kshs 2000 Corporate Physical Box: Kshs 9450.”
MPost’s virtual address system transforms mobile numbers into official virtual addresses, enabling users to receive instant SMS notifications whenever they receive mail at their digitized postal office boxes. This service aims to streamline mail and parcel delivery for individuals and businesses across Kenya.
In a recent move, MPost relocated its headquarters from Nairobi to Kigali, citing a more favorable business environment for tech startups in Rwanda.
