Preacher defends himself after viral exorcism video

Preacher featured in viral video conducting bizarre rituals on a woman has come out to defend himself.

The Akorino preacher identified as Danson Gichuhi alias Bishop Johana, attracted mixed reactions and debate over religious rituals.

Speaking in a local interview, Bishop Johana stated that the woman in the video identified as Wanjiru, sought deliverance over marital issues.

According to him, the ‘troubled’ woman was left to fend for her children by her husband who went to live with another woman.

This reportedly prompted her to travel to Nairobi seeking spiritual intervention for her husband to return home.

“When she came, I saw she was troubled. I told her the name of the woman her husband had left her for. She is called Carol. She asked me what to do,” he explained.

Bishop Johana said what he was doing in the viral video was just one of the methods of deliverance, to allegedly cast out evil demons from Wanjiru.

“I was casting out evil spirits from the woman, and they spoke to me and told me they are from Carol, and Carol had gone to Uganda for witchcraft to attract married men,” the preacher added.

Johana, who was seen inserting fingers in the woman’s genitals, emphasized that it was important for him to apply anointing oil to the affected areas.

“You have to apply the anointing oil where the pain is, not on the face, for example. That woman told me her problem was in the stomach area, and that’s why I was rubbing oil on her stomach. I had no bad intentions.”

He affirmed that it was not the first time he was conducting such a ritual, and that the practice was effective on other followers.

Johana noted that his wife was also privy to all operations within his ministry and was therefore not bothered by the bizarre rituals.

“I have a wife, I have children, and I even work with my wife. She is a great woman of God.”

Nevertheless, the video renewed a heated debate on boundaries in religious practices.
