President William Ruto has once again addressed the ongoing discourse about his frequent foreign trips, which has sparked questions and criticism from some Kenyans.
Speaking during a church service in Kimende, Kiambu County on Sunday, December 10, 2023, President Ruto emphasized that his international travels serve the interests of Kenyans and are not mere tourist excursions.
“You’ve learned that I’ve visited various regions globally, and my travels are intentional and with a plan, I am not a tourist. Changing this country requires deliberate thoughts and plans,” he said.
According to him, his regular trips abroad aim to enhance bilateral relations and secure job opportunities for Kenyans, addressing the ongoing issue of unemployment in the country.
“Some individuals will find employment locally through the housing project here in Rukuma, some will contribute to the ICT hub, and others will travel abroad for work,” he added.

President William Ruto has made 45 trips to foreign countries since assuming office in September 2022.
In November 2023 alone, the President travelled to four countries, namely, Saudi Arabia, Germany, France, and Tanzania, in that order.

His latest trips have been to Dubai for the 28th COP28 climate conference followed by a trip to India where he held talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
His trips come amid interrogative statements from the opposition on travel expenditure. The opposition has repeatedly claimed that the Kenya Kwanza government has become exorbitant in its travel expenses.
