President William Ruto has gazetted 9 names of nominees for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) selection panel.
In a gazette notice on Monday January 27, 2025, President Ruto noted that the team will be tasked with selecting IEBC chairperson and 6 commissioners.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 7A of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Act, as read with paragraph 1 (2) of the First Schedule to the Act, 1, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint- Under Subparagraph (2) (a)- Kiome Lindah Gakii, Oloo Adams (Prof.),” read part of the gazette notice.
Other members of the panel are James Evans Misati, Nicodemus Kipchirchir Bore, Koki Muli Grignon (Amb.), Carolene Kituku, Tanui Andrew Kipkoech, Nelson Makanda (Dr.), and Fatuma Saman.
This is after the High Court lifted orders barring their gazettement last week.
The 9 members are set to be sworn in at 9am on Monday January 27, 2025, at the Supreme Court of Kenya building in Nairobi.
This comes amid pressure for President Ruto to establish the IEBC selection panel, with claims that he was interfering with independent institutions.
