President William Ruto has arrived at the Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi to lead Kenyans during the 61st Jamhuri Day celebrations.
Deputy president Kithure Kindiki, First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto, Chief cabinet secretary Musalia Mudavadi and other CSs arrived shortly before President Ruto at the venue.
President Ruto was received by Kenya’s Chief of Defence Forces General Charles Kahariri.
Following his arrival, he inspected the guard of honour and presided over the trooping of colours ceremony.
Other officials present include Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu, Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja and members of the diplomatic corps.
Jamhuri Day is a national event observed annually on December 12, to commemorate the day in 1963 when Kenya gained independence from British colonial rule.
