President William Ruto on Tuesday June 18, 2024 chaired a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Parliamentary Group meeting at State House, in Nairobi.
Main agenda of President Ruto’s meeting with Kenya Kwanza legislators is about Finance Bill 2024, which is expected to be tabled in parliament on Tuesday afternoon.
During the meeting, the legislators were led by Senate majority leader Aaron Cheruiyot and National Assembly majority leader Kimani Ichungwah.
Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua was among the leaders who attended the meeting at State House, Tuesday morning.
President Ruto’s meeting with Kenya Kwanza legislators comes at a time when a section of Kenyans led by human rights activists vowed to protest outside parliament against the proposed tax increase, outlined in the Finance Bill 2024.
The protestors aim is to influence lawmakers to reject the Finance Bill, set for consideration in the House on Tuesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, Kenyans on social media platforms actively supported the ‘occupy parliament’ protests by sharing posters and guidelines for the demonstrations scheduled outside Parliament buildings.
