‘President Ruto didn’t call you’ -Hussein Mohammed dismisses Morara Kebaso

State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed has dismissed claims that President William Ruto made a phone call to lawyer Morara Kebaso.

Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV on Wednesday August 28, 2024, the State House spokesperson dismissed allegations by activist Morara Kebaso that President William Ruto reached out to him and even offered a job.

During the interview, Kebaso, who is known for his criticism of President Ruto’s projects, ignited a firestorm leading to responses from the Kenya Kwanza government.

State House spokesperson, Hussein Mohammed

“I am shocked at what Morara is saying. I wonder why he would lie on national TV that the President called him. It’s ridiculous that I have to respond to this but let me do it because you Jeff let it happen on TV. For the record, such a call never happened, it’s a statement of his imagination,” Hussein said in a live call.

He insisted that such a call never happened, and it is was all in Morara’s head.

Morara claimed he had initially gotten calls from people surrounding President Ruto and after declining the offers, President Ruto himself called and offered him a state position, of which he declined.

“I received calls from those close to the President, and eventually, the President himself reached out to me,” Kebaso stated.

“I declined the offer because I believe that there are enough people in government, and frankly, I wouldn’t want to be part of the corruption that seems pervasive there,” he added.

The confrontation between Morara and the Ruto’s administration has become a focal point in the ongoing debate about government transparency and the integrity of public officials.

Meanwhile, Isaac Mwaura, the current government spokesperson also joined the debate, claiming that President Ruto never called Kebaso.

In addition, the government spokesperson asked Kebaso to examine his conscience and show some patriotism.

Morara Kebaso, I am not aware of any call from the President to you. Please examine your conscience and show some patriotism. I just bumped into you at KICC like any other fellow citizen. Be honest with yourself,” stated Isaac Mwaura.

When asked to give evidence to prove the call happened , Kebaso said he would not be following the footsteps of the leaders who have a history of recording or putting the Head of State on speaker in order to prove a point.
