President William Ruto has led the nation in celebrating Kenya’s dominant performance at the 2025 Boston Marathon, praising John Korir, Sharon Lokedi, Cyprian Kotut and Hellen Obiri for flying the country’s flag high on the global stage.

In a powerful congratulatory message, President Ruto lauded John Korir’s stunning victory, calling it “a historic milestone in world athletics.” Korir clinched the men’s title in a blazing time that ranks as the second-fastest in the Boston Marathon’s 129-year history.

“Well done, John Korir, for your remarkable victory,” President Ruto stated. “Your performance demonstrated the resilience, determination and spirit that define champions.”

Cyprian Kotut, who powered to third place in the men’s race, also earned the President’s praise. “Bravo Cyprian Kotut for securing third position and proudly flying the Kenyan flag high,” Ruto said, acknowledging Kotut’s consistent excellence in long-distance running.

The women’s race was a showcase of Kenyan brilliance, with Sharon Lokedi storming to victory and setting a new course record.

“Congratulations Sharon Lokedi for winning the women’s race and setting a new course record,” President Ruto said. “This is not only a personal triumph but a moment of pride for the entire athletics community and our nation.”

Ruto also saluted Hellen Obiri, who finished second in a tight race, reinforcing Kenya’s reputation as a distance-running superpower. “Well done to Hellen Obiri for finishing second and cementing Kenya’s stature as a global athletics powerhouse,” he added.

The President hailed the athletes as Kenya’s finest ambassadors. “We salute you all for representing Kenya with distinction. Your victories inspire our youth and remind the world of our strength, unity and unrelenting pursuit of excellence.”

Kenya’s sweeping success in Boston comes at a time when national pride in athletics is soaring, and the President’s message underscores the government’s unwavering support for sports as a pillar of identity and unity.
