President William Ruto has today humoured mourners at National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula mother Maayi Nanyama’s funeral.
Dr Ruto said that netizens on social media try to water down efforts by his government additionally nicknaming him “Kasongo” and “Zakayo”.
“Hio Kasongo ni sawa, ni wimbo mzuri sana ambao ulikuwa unaendelea so hio Kasongo tuendelee nayo. Ile ya Zakayo pia si mbaya kwa sababu kukusanya ushuru ya kupeleka Kenya mbele hio ni sawa na kwanza Mungu alitembelea Zakayo, sasa wewe hujakuwa Zakayo utatembelewa na Mungu namna gani?”
(‘Kasongo’ is a nice song, you can keep addressing me as Kasongo. Zakayo is also not a bad name as I am tasked with the responsibility of collecting taxes to move the country forward. Additionally, God visited Zakayo, how can He visit you if you are not Zakayo?)
He urged leaders from all political fronts to join efforts and work for Kenyans together as they are all working for a common cause, to move Kenya forward.
“Let us work together, when Kenya succeeds, it will succeed with all of us despite our political affiliations,” added Dr Ruto.
Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah ignited a political storm after accusing former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of being behind the rising cases of abductions in the country.
“Gachagua was the orchestrator of abductions so that he could blame President Ruto,” Ichung’wah said. Ichung’wah’s accusations did not stop at Gachagua. He also took aim at Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, who was present at the burial, accusing him of failing to act during his tenure as a Regional Commissioner.
“Shame on you Governor Natembeya. You cannot complain about abductions when you were the key abductor of Kenyans under the last regime,” he added.
Governor Natembeya who also attended the burial ceremony called for an end of abductions. “I am also insulted by these kids, that needs to change but if it cannot, people should not be killed or abducted because of that.”
