President Ruto: Judicial impunity by corrupt judicial officers must stop

National NewsNews

President William Ruto has raised concern over the abuse of the Judiciary by individuals to sabotage Government programmes.

The President said some elements have taken captive some judicial officers to frustrate Government efforts in taming the theft of public resources.

He said it was unreasonable for a few people to have their way at the expense of the public.

The President added that the Judiciary must submit itself to the Constitution and Kenyans.

“We will protect the independence of the Judiciary. But we will not ‘allow selfish individuals to take it captive,” he said.

“We respect the judiciary but the judicial impunity by corrupt judicial officers must stop in Kenya. We will stop it with whatever it takes” added the president.

Ruto also maintained his stance against the court’s decision on the housing levy and Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) implementation.

“The constitution stipulates that every Kenyan is entitled to the highest standards of healthcare. In our manifesto, we had plans for Universal Health Coverage (UHC), and this has been approved by parliament. A few corrupt people are using the courts to stop these programmes and we will not allow it,” said Ruto.

He made the remarks on Tuesday during the funeral service of Michael Maigo Waweru — the father to Senator John Methu — in Njabini.

The President described the late Mzee Waweru as a gentleman who was dedicated to serving the community.

“He was a respected and enterprising leader with fresh ideas that changed many lives.”

Present were Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano, Speaker of the Senate Amason Kingi, Nyandarua Governor Kiarie Badilisha, MPs led by Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah and MCAs.
