President William Ruto on Sunday October 20, 2024 led Kenyans during the 61st Mashujaa Day celebrations at Kwale County Stadium.
Thousands of Kenyans from different parts of the country started arriving at the stadium, as early as 5 am.
According to the Kwale County government, the stadium where the national event was hosted has a capacity of accommodating up to 10,000 people.
Security had been tightened in and around the stadium, with officers from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the National Police Service deployed from Kombani to Kwale town.
The president was accompanied by his wife Rachel Ruto, Deputy President-nominee Kithure Kindiki, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and Kwale Governor Fatma Achani.
The troops for the Guard of Honor were drawn from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), namely the Kenya Army, Kenya Air Force, and Kenya Navy.
The Guard of Honor (GoH) was commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Faith Mwagandi, marking a historic moment as she became the first female senior officer to lead troops at a national event in the country.
