President Ruto makes 23 major appointments, promotions in KDF

President William Ruto on Wednesday, July 24 announced a series of promotions and appointments within the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

This promotions and appointments were in line with recommendations of the Defence Council, chaired by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

The changes are designed to bolster the leadership and operational effectiveness of the KDF, ensuring that it remains well-equipped to address the evolving security challenges facing the nation.

Pomotions, postings, and appointments

Major General Stephen Mutuku has been appointed Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College.

In the Kenya Army, several Colonels were elevated to Brigadier, including Edward Nyamao as Chief of Compensation and Welfare, and Collins Mitoko as Chief of Personnel.

Additionally, Colonel Paul Kiplimo Koech has been promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief of Training, while Colonel Clement Kimaiga Nyakundi takes on the role of Deputy Managing Director at the Kenya Meat Commission.

Other notable promotions include Colonel Victor Ndegwa Mburu, who is now Brigadier and Commander of the Combat Engineers Brigade, and Colonel Eric Nzioki Kitusya, promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief of Logistics at Headquarters Kenya Army.

Colonel Salaash Kantai has been promoted to Brigadier and appointed Commander of the Military Intelligence Corps. Colonel Edward Willy Banda is now Brigadier and Brigade Commander of the 8 Brigade, while Colonel Jackson Lesaiyo Lemakara has been promoted to Brigadier and appointed Commander of the Embakasi Garrison. Colonel (Dr) Charles Ondego Ochieng is now Brigadier and Chief of Naval Medical Services, and Colonel Yusuf Hussein Adan has been promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief of Communication Information System at Defence Headquarters.

Finally, Lieutenant Colonel (Rev) Jane Wairimu Muringi has been promoted to Colonel and appointed as the Service Chaplain.

Kenya Air Force, Navy

In the Kenya Air Force, Colonel Bernard Markie Oluoch has been promoted to Brigadier and appointed Base Commander at Moi Air Base. Colonel Eutychus Ndegwa Nyawira has been promoted to Brigadier and will lead Training Support and Research at the National Defence College.

Colonel Nehemiah Kemei is now Brigadier and Chief Executive Officer of Defence SACCO, while Lieutenant Colonel Mercy Wairimu Kamau has been promoted to Colonel and appointed Colonel of Finance and Audit at Defence National Security Industries.

In the Kenya Navy, Brigadier John Sankale Kiswaa has been appointed Deputy Commander of the Kenya Navy, and Brigadier Peter Shikukuu Chelimo will serve as the Director of the Centre for Security and Strategic Studies at the National Defence University Kenya.

Meanwhile, Colonel Lazarus Patroba Wafula has been promoted to Brigadier and appointed Base Commander of the Kenya Navy Base in Manda. Colonel Abraham Kipchirchir Biwott is now Brigadier and Base Commander of the Kenya Navy Base in Mtongwe, while Colonel Mohamed Shee Shemote has been promoted to Brigadier and appointed Base Commander of the Kenya Navy Fleet.

Lastly, Lieutenant Colonel Marcella Kananu Aritho has been promoted to Colonel and appointed Deputy Commander of the Kenya Navy Fleet.

These appointments are part of ongoing efforts to enhance the operational capabilities and leadership within the KDF, ensuring readiness to meet national security challenges.
