President William Ruto addressed the country on July 11 and highlighted a number of his administration’s achievements.
He also declared that all members of his Cabinet were fired, except for Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
In his opening remarks, Ruto noted that considerable strides had been made in raising food output through lower costs for farm inputs, which in turn resulted in lower food and living expenditures.
He persisted in highlighting more accomplishments made possible by the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, which served as the platform for the election of the Kenya Kwanza administration in the general election of 2022.
“Despite our achievements, I understand that the people of Kenya have high expectations and believe this administration can achieve the most extensive transformation in our nation’s history,” Ruto stated.
“Using the powers granted to me by Article 152(1) and 152(5)(b) of the Constitution and Section 12 of the Office of the Attorney-General Act, I have decided to dismiss all the Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney-General, except the Prime Cabinet Secretary and the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, with immediate effect,” he announced.
In a gazette notice dated July 12, Ruto explained his reasons for this decision. He cited his presidential prerogative to continuously assess the capacity of his Cabinet, State Departments, and State Agencies to ensure they meet national aspirations.
He emphasized his constitutional duty to promote good governance in public affairs management.
Ruto also mentioned the need to better equip and reorient the government to implement the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
He reiterated his understanding of the feedback from Kenyans regarding the government’s responsiveness amidst mass protests.
In reorganizing his government, Ruto aimed to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, transparency, and accountability in public service delivery. He formally ordered and directed the dismissal of the listed Cabinet Secretaries.
The gazette notice also named Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi as the acting CS for all the vacant ministerial positions.
