President William Ruto has issued an executive order to the Ministry of Education to postpone reopening of schools until further notice.
He was speaking on Friday afternoon at State House, Nairobi while giving a national update on the state of the country following heavy rains and flooding.
“The Ministry of Education is directed to postpone the dates of reopening of all schools in the country for the second term until further notice,” the first in command added.
He furthered directed reassignment of Constituency Development Funds (CDF) to rebuilding of damaged schools and property ahead of fresh reopening dates.
“Members of Parliament are requested to reorganise the CDF allocations to prioritise reconstruction of school infrastructure that has been damaged as a result of the floods ravaging the country.”
President Ruto went on to direct the Ministry of Interior to reinforce the evacuation order of all persons residing along riparian lands particularly within Nairobi.
The Head of State expressed disappointment over the locals who were reportedly defying the order by refusing to relocate even as heavy rains continue wreaking havoc across the country.
Ruto disclosed that the current rains would be witnessed throughout the month of May and possible even in June, with the first ever cyclone occurring along the coastline.
