President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga rode in the same vehicle on their way to the African Union (AU) Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
In a video seen by TV47 Digital, Ruto and Raila—accompanied by other senior government officials like Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi—are seen leaving a building, presumably a hotel.
President Ruto is heard ushering Raila, who is vying for the position of the AU Commission Chairperson, to the waiting high-end car inscribed ‘KENYA’. Raila then takes the back left seat, as Ruto occupies back right.
This was ahead of the 38th Ordinary Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union, to take place at the AU headquarters.
It is during this ordinary session of the AU that the heads of state and government will take a vote on the next AUC Chair. The winner will take over from Chad’s Moussa Faki Mahamat, whose two-term tenure comes to an end.
The AUC chairperson serves for a period of four years, renewable once.
Raila will face off with Djibouti’s Mahamoud Ali Youssouf and Madagascar’s Richard Randriamandrato.
