President Ruto set to launch key projects in Kisii today

President William Ruto is set to launch major development projects during his three-day visit to Gusii region starting Monday August 12, 2024.

The projects include the Tuesday groundbreaking ceremony for a Cancer Centre treatment facility on the outskirts of Kisii town.

Upon completion, the cancer centre project will cost about Ksh3 billion.

At the same time, the Head of State will flag off the construction of a key interchange at Daraja Mbili in Kisii town.

According to local leaders, the interchange is a game changer in improving infrastructure in the region.

Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi explained that the interchange forms part of the final stages for the construction of the multi-billion Kisii – Ahero – Kisumu road and the Kisii – Rongo – Migori Highway.

It is a major road network that connects Northern Tanzania to Uganda and South Sudan through Kisumu.

In Nyaribari Chache where the cancer centre is to be set up, MP Zaheer Jhanda said the residents of Gusii and the larger parts of Nyanza would benefit heavily from the health facility.

“We anticipate its completion at a significantly shorter period and be operationalized soon because the funding is available,” the MP told journalists during a press briefing at Keumbu.

He added that it will promote early diagnosis and management of cancer and reduce the burden of treatment among the residents in the region.

The President will also lay the foundation block for the construction of an administrative block at the Kiabonyoru Mixed Secondary School in Nyamira County.

In addition, he will launch the last mile electricity connectivity at Nyangeni area in Nyaribari Chache, before heading to Kisii for another event.

President Ruto will also preside over the groundbreaking event for the construction of affordable housing at Ichuni in Nyaribari Masaba.

The president is also set to commission a new block at Keroka Hospital in Kitutu Masaba.
