President William Ruto will on Saturday, December 30 grace the finals of the Cleo Malalah Super Cup tournament.
Former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, the brain behind the epic tournament, will welcome the Head of State at the Mumias Sports Complex in Mumias, Kakamega County.
This will not be the first tie Ruto is attending the Cleo Malalah Super Cup. In December 2021, while he was deputy president, Ruto attended the fourth edition of the tournament.
The final day of the epic football tournament pitting teams across Western region will see the semi-finals, third-place playoffs and final matches decided on the same venue.
Final matches
The tournament attracted a total of 48 teams divided into 12 pools of four. Each group leaders and four best losers qualified for the Round of 16 stage.
This year’s edition saw the introduction of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) and large stadium screens to enhance fair officiating and overall entertainment for fans.
KSh3 million prize money
KSh3 million is at stake for the winners of this football bonanza.
The runners-up will not leave empty-handed either, pocketing KSh1.5 million, while the second runners-up will take home KSh1 million.
The fourth-placed team will receive KSh500,000 cash reward.
All the participating teams received branded Cleo Malala kits and balls.
