President Ruto’s fresh beginning as new Cabinet sworn in

President William Ruto on Thursday August 8, 2024 witnessed the swearing in of 19 new Cabinet Secretaries in an event at State House, Nairobi.

The swearing-in ceremony was also attended by senior government officials including deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi and family members of new cabinet secretaries.

Interior CS Kithure Kindiki was the first to take oath of office, followed by Defence CS Soipan Tuya, John Mbadi (National Treasury), Justin Muturi (Public Service) and Aden Duale (Environment, Climate Change and Forestry).

Lands CS Alice Wahome was next to take the oath, followed by Julius Ogamba (Education), Davis Chirchir (Transport), and Rebecca Miano (Tourism and Wildlife).

Hassan Joho (Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime affairs), Alfred Mutua (Labour and Social protection), Eric Muuga (Water and Sanitation), Salim Mvurya (Investment, Trade and Industry), Debra Barasa (Health) and Kipchumba Murkomen (Youth Affairs and Sports) also took oath of office respectively.

Ministry of Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi was next to be sworn in, followed by Margaret Nyambura (ICT and Digital Economy), Wycliffe Oparanya (Cooperatives) and Andrew Karanja (Agriculture and Livestock Development).

This was after President Ruto gazetted their appointments on Wednesday August 7, 2024 after they were approved by the National Assembly Committee on appointments.

Shortly after the swearing in ceremony, government officials were seen affixing official flags to the newly assigned vehicles of the cabinet secretaries.

The flags signify the official status and position of the cabinet secretaries. It is also a symbol of their roles within the government of Kenya.
