President Ruto’s heartfelt tribute after pastor Raphael Obego’s death

Homa Bay County is mourning the death of Pastor Raphael Obego, the principal chaplain whose dedication to service and infectious sense of humor left a memorable impact on both the local community and high-ranking government officials.

Homa Bay County governor Gladys Wanga, confirmed Pastor Obego’s passing on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 highlighting the loss of a valued leader.

Pastor Obego came to national prominence in February 2024 during the International Investment Conference held in Homa Bay, where his humor and charisma brought laughter to President William Ruto and other officials in attendance.

His lively spirit and ability to uplift those around him earned him admiration far beyond the county.

Upon receiving the news, President Ruto shared a deeply emotional tribute, calling Pastor Obego a “high-spirited leader” who touched many lives.

In a statement on his X account, Ruto described Obego as a devoted servant of God and a prayer warrior.

“He was a light-hearted faith leader whose sermons were not only provoking and evocative but also clear and authentic,” Ruto’s statement read.

During this difficult time, he also sent his condolences to the late clergyman’s family and church.

“Our prayers are with the Obego family and his congregation in Homa Bay county at this difficult time,” Ruto added.

The president emphasized how Pastor Obego’s kindness and energy created a warm atmosphere wherever he went, adding that he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

On February 27, Pastor Obego made leaders chuckle during the opening prayers of the second International Investment Conference in Homa Bay before wrapping up his remarks.

Throughout the ceremony, Ruto, the honored guest, and his host, Governor Gladys Wanga, couldn’t help but smile.

The entire audience laughed as Pastor Obego used a combination of broad and hilarious language to fervently pray for blessings for the county and the Head of State, starting the humorous moment.

Wanga and the other esteemed guests were ecstatic and couldn’t stop laughing as the eloquent preacher was about to conclude his prayer.

In response to the pastor’s concluding remarks, Ruto enthusiastically said “Amen,” then burst out laughing and grinning.
