President Ruto visits China to unlock new opportunities in trade

President William Ruto`s five- day state visit to China commences today, 22nd April 2025.

A statement by State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed outlined the purpose of the State Visit, stating that it will build on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2017 through the Belt and Road Initiative to advance Kenya’s infrastructure connectivity.

His visit will unlock new opportunities in trade, investment and infrastructure in Kenya therefore boosting our economy.

While in Beijing, Ruto will hold bilateral talks with the China president, Xi Jinping, to advance shared priorities in economic transformation and global cooperation.

The president is expected to officiate Kenya- China Business Forum, bringing together over 100 companies, to explore new opportunities in trade investment and digital innovation.

“As part of efforts to boost Kenya’s agricultural exports, he will inaugurate the Kenya Tea Holding Centre in Fujian Province. Situated in one of China’s key tea regions, the Centre will enhance the visibility and market access of Kenyan tea, support smallholder farmers, and strengthen Kenya’s trade footprint in Asia,” said Mohamed.

While in China, Ruto will deliver keynote address at Perking University to highlight Africa`s vision for inclusive growth and leadership.

The president will further engage with the Chinese leadership on global regional matters, advocating for enhanced multilateral cooperation.

His visit will not only solidify the partnership we have with China but also boost the economy of Kenya.
