President William Ruto on Thursday July 11, 2024 dismissed all his cabinet secretaries including the office of the Attorney General.
Speaking during a press briefing at State House Nairobi, President Ruto said that all offices of cabinet secretaries become vacant with immediate effect.
However, the president noted that the offices of the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and the Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi were unaffected.
“I have today in line with the powers given to me decided to dismiss with immediate effect all the CSs and AG except the Prime CS and CS for Foreign Affairs and the office of the Deputy President is not affected in any way,” said President Ruto.
In addition the president noted that all activities in Ministries will be run by principal secretaries, who were not affected in the announced changes.
“During this process, the operations of government will continue uninterrupted under the guidance of Principal Secretaries and other relevant officials,” Ruto stated.
At the same time, Ruto explained that he made the decision after considering views from Kenyans about the performance of CSs, their achievements and some of the challenges in each Ministry.
His decision comes after a series of anti-government protests in different parts of the country, as protesters demanded major reforms in the entire Kenya Kwanza government.
The protests started in June 2024, as Kenyan youth, mostly Gen Z, mobilized themselves on social media to reject the Finance Bill 2024, which was later declined by President Ruto.
