Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kibra have arrested Brian Otieno Maurice, the prime suspect in the murder of Sospeter Osunga, famously known as ‘Akoko the Billionaire.’
Osunga, a fourth-year Kirinyaga University student, was attacked on November 18, 2024, in the Ayani area. He sustained fatal wounds on his back, believed to have been inflicted by a sharp object. The tragic incident followed a violent altercation between his entourage and a group of boda boda riders at a local club.
Earlier that evening, Akoko, who was well-known for his lavish lifestyle, had visited Kibera with a male and female companion.
Reports indicate he offered drinks to revelers at one joint before heading to another club where a popular Ohangla musician was performing.
Tensions escalated when a fracas broke out between his group and boda boda riders. During the chaos, the woman accompanying Akoko was seriously injured but managed to escape.
His driver also fled the scene and alerted the police. Sadly, Akoko was hacked multiple times by a mob and succumbed to his injuries.
DCI detectives launched investigations and arrested three individuals who provided crucial leads. This information, combined with intelligence, led to the capture of Brian Otieno, who is set to be arraigned in court on Monday December 9, 2024.
This tragic incident came just two months after another Kirinyaga University student, Dennis Oduor Otieno, was found dead in Mombasa under mysterious circumstances following a night out.
