Chaos broke out in Nakuru on Thursday as residents protested the disappearance of fisherman Brian Odhiambo, missing for a week after allegedly being picked up by state agencies.
Despite police questioning officials, protests escalated into violent clashes, with parts of the town, including Lake Nakuru National Park, set on fire.
The protests, entering their fifth day, led to several Kimathi Secondary School students being hospitalized due to tear gas.
Odhiambo disappeared on January 18, 2025, and was reportedly seen being taken by officers.
Police struggled to control the protests, using live ammunition and tear gas.
The situation worsened when protesters set parts of the park ablaze.
Local leaders criticized the slow investigation, with 13 officers questioned.
The case is under review by the Director of Public Prosecutions. Regional police are planning next steps.
Meanwhile, protests also erupted over the shooting of Eliud Ochieng, 32, who was injured near the National Park and is receiving treatment as investigations are still ongoing.
