Authorities have arrested Mukhtar Suleiman, a 35-year-old suspect known for his involvement in break-ins and illegal siphoning of fuel, following a quick response from Wajir Police Station.
The incident took place in the Halane area during the early hours of August 2, 2024. Officers acted on intelligence regarding a break-in at a telecommunication company facility, leading them to the scene just in time to stop the illegal siphoning attempt.
Upon arrival, the police caught Suleiman in the act of siphoning diesel from the facility. Unfortunately for him, his accomplices managed to flee into the darkness, evading capture.
During the investigation at the scene, officers recovered a significant amount of stolen fuel. They found three full 20-litre jerrycans, one half-full jerrycan of diesel, and 14 empty jerrycans, along with a siphoning pipe. This evidence underscores the scale of the operation that Suleiman and his accomplices were attempting.
Suleiman is currently being held at Wajir Police Station, where he will undergo processing before being arraigned in court.
The police are actively pursuing leads to locate his accomplices, who still remain at large.
