“Provide evidence of alleged corruption in affordable housing project” – CS Wahome to Gachagua

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been challenged to table evidence at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on allegation that the government is involved in serious corruption scandals through the Affordable Housing program.

Speaking in Machakos County during a tour to asses the progress of 200 housing units in the program, Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome slammed Gachagua following his recent remarks that the project was a government money-making project.

She terms Gachagua’s sentiments as selfish and hypocritical, since he is opposing a project he participated in drafting into the Kenya Kwanza Government manifesto.

The CS further said that the government will solve the issue of transferring land records of Konza region from Machakos land registry to Makueni, an issue that has triggered a border dispute between the two counties.

The move sparked high political temperatures between Makueni and Machakos counties leading to a court injunction to stop the process at the high court.

The president will officially launch the housing project in Machakos County on April this year, with government saying over 600,000 Kenyans have already expresses interest in owning the houses across the country.

In Machakos County, CS Wahome says over 2,000 resident have already sent request through ‘Boma Yangu’ app to own the affordable houses.
