“The national government remains steadfast in addressing the needs of our diaspora communities, working tirelessly to increase investment remittances to at least 50%.”
These are the words of Ms. Roselyn Njogu, Principal Secretary at the State Department for Diaspora Affairs during the 10th Annual Kenya Diaspora Homecoming Convention (KDHC-2023).
During the annual meeting, PS Njogu highlighted the crucial part Kenyans played in the diaspora boosting investment in the country.
The event occurred from 6th to 8th December 2023, at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi.
Moreover, the annual gathering brought together a high-level gathering of government officials, ambassadors from various nations, both local and diaspora communities, and friends of Kenya.

Foreign dignitaries in attendance at KDHC
The KDHC-2023 attracted a range of high-profile attendees with a voice on Kenyan matters in the diaspora.
KDA Global Chair Dr. Shem Ochuodho highlighted the significance of this event in partnership-building for the Kenyan diaspora community.
“The convention serves as a nexus for engagement, dialogue, and partnership-building among Kenyan diaspora communities and stakeholders from around the world” Dr. Ochuodho stated.
In his view, the role of Kenyans in the diaspora was critical and must be recognized for what it brought to the table.
“It underscores the vital role that diaspora members play in Kenya’s development journey, transforming challenges into opportunities” He shared.

American Ambassador to Kenya
In attendance was the American Ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman who has been vocal on Kenya’s strategic position in a global world.
Whitman underlined the vast opportunities presented by Africa’s economic growth and the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
She noted; “AGOA is a bridge to opportunities for Kenya and the diaspora, creating jobs and fostering economic growth. Let us seize these prospects together.”
The ambassador also shared her enthusiasm for greater collaboration between the United States and Kenya to further position Kenya strategically.
