Puzzle of man who visited friend in Nakuru but ended up in a morgue, with stab wound

A court in Nakuru is today (Tuesday, December 24) expected to rule on whether to allow DCI’s prayers to detain a suspect in a murder case, or release him on bond.

Seth Kiprop Cherongis was yesterday (Monday, December 23) taken to court, with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers requesting to detain him for 14 days as they conclude on their investigations.

However, there was a jam in court and the prayer was not heard, prompting to be pushed to today.

Cherongis was arrested on Friday, December 20 after the lifeless body of his friend — Kevin Mathela Makau — was found in his rented apartments within Eveready Area in Kapetembwo, Nakuru City.

According to a report filed by the caretaker at Neema Apartments, Cherongis — one of his tenants — informed him that he had someone sick in the house.

The caretaker went to the house to confirm the news and found Makau lying on the floor motionless, his t-shirt blood-stained. That is when he rushed to Kaptembwo Police Station to report the matter.

When the police arrived at the scene, they established that the 28-year-old had a stab wound on the left side of his chest.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the deceased had visited his friend, now the prime suspect, who hosted him at his house.

“It was further established that [on Thursday, December 19] they had gone out clubbing and came back to the house [on Friday, December 20] after midnight while they were both [appearing] drunk as evidenced from CCTV footage,” the police report seen by TV47 Digital reads in part.

At the scene of crime, investigators privy to the case say the deceased t-shirt was torn and the house looked disturbed, suggesting a commotion.

The body was removed to Nakuru Provincial General Hospital morgue awaiting postmortem.
