Race to replace Nick Mwendwa as FKF President heats up with nine candidates confirmed

The race to succeed Nick Mwendwa as the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President is in full swing, with nine candidates officially entering the fray.

The FKF Presidential elections are set for December 2024, and the competition promises to be one of the most intriguing in recent years.

On Monday, nine candidates submitted their nomination papers and the necessary documents to contest for the top football leadership position in Kenya. Mwendwa, who has served as FKF President for eight years, is ineligible for another term under the Sports Act 2013, which limits the duration a person can hold the office.

However, Mwendwa is not stepping away from the governance of Kenyan football entirely. This time, he is running for the Vice President position, supporting his current deputy, Doris Petra, who is aiming for the presidency.

Meanwhile, other familiar faces and new contenders have thrown their hats into the ring, including Barry Otieno, the immediate former FKF CEO, and Sam Nyamweya, Mwendwa’s predecessor, who lost the seat in 2016.
