Raila concludes campaign for AUC chairmanship in Ethiopia

Kenya’s candidate for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission, Raila Odinga on Saturday November 10, 2024 concluded a two-day campaign forum at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Raila, who is also the former AU High Representative for Infrastructure Development announced plans to ramp up his campaign efforts through an active shuttle diplomacy strategy in the lead-up to the AUC chairmanship election, which is set to take place in February 2025.

DP Kindiki in Gaborone

Meanwhile, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki held bilateral discussions on Saturday with the newly inaugurated President of Botswana, Duma Gideon Boko.

During the discussions in Gaborone, Kindiki advocated for Raila Odinga, Kenya’s candidate for the African Union Commission chairmanship, and officially presented President William Ruto’s request for support to the Botswana President.

Ruto, through his deputy, described Odinga as a skilled African statesman whose leadership experience would significantly contribute to advancing the continent on global issues, including development, trade, peace and security, climate change, and economic transformation.

What Raila promised

This is after Raila promised to prioritize economic transformation, boost intra-African trade and infrastructure, promote financial independence, ensure gender equity and equality, drive agricultural transformation, and address climate action if he is elected as the chairperson of the African Union Commission.
