Raila defends Gen Francis Ogolla against Bomas remarks

Azimio leader Raila Odinga has once again called for investigations into the death of Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Francis Ogolla.

Ogolla perished in a KDF chopper crash in Elgeyo Marakwet on Thursday, April 18.

He was in the company of 10 more soldiers while on a mission to visit troops enlisted in the ‘Maliza Uhalifu’ in North Rift.

While eulogising the military chief, Raila Odinga requested President William Ruto to address rumours surrounding General Ogolla’s death.

“… because of the manner in which General Ogolla died, a lot of rumours are flying around. We want these rumours to be put to rest, and this can only happen if there is a thorough investigation so that the cause of death can be made known,” he added.

The Azimio honcho further addressed President Ruto’s previous remarks accusing Gen Ogolla of attempting to overthrow his victory in the 2022 general elections.

A visibly irked Odinga defended the general, saying he would never be part of such a plan.

“As we lay General Ogolla to rest tomorrow, I want you to remove this stigma. I knew this man very well. Gen Ogolla would never have contemplated going to the Bomas of Kenya to force Chebukati to alter the results of the last General Elections.

“We want this stigma removed as we lay him to rest,” Odinga added.

He further called on review of military equipment in the country seeing as there has been rising numbers of aircraft accidents.

Officials are asking hard questions to unravel circumstances under which the air crash occurred. Among things being probed is if there was a breach of protocol leading to the loss of the most protected military man in Kenya.

The country was sent into grief and shock Thursday, April 18 when President William Ruto, at State House Nairobi, announced the passing of nine military officials, including General Ogolla, when their helicopter crashed in Kaben area, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

The fatal air crash has left everyone perplexed just how, why, where, who and what really happened?
