Azimio leader Raila Odinga on Saturday, August 19 traveled out of the country for a week-long visit to the United Kingdom.
The Azimio leader met US Senator Chris Coons at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Nairobi briefly before he embarked on a flight to the UK. The two met coincidentally as Senator Coons was departing for the US.
“Our paths crossed again last night with my friend Senator Chris Coons heading home to the US while I left for the UK,” Raila noted in a statement.
Raila added that he had a fruitful conversation with Senator Coons and wished each other safe flights.
His trip to Britain is of great significance to the country as it is meant to strengthen ties between Kenya and the UK.
According to his spokesperson, Denis Onyango, the Azimio leader will be meeting business associates, friends, and other Kenyans living in the UK during the visit.
Onyango added that the Azimio leader would also use the trip for resting.
However, his close allies revealed that the ODM party leader is scheduled to hold talks with senior government officials and other dignitaries in the UK.
The former Prime Minister left for the UK a few days after stirring a political storm in the country by unleashing a scathing verbal attack on US Ambassador Meg Whitman.
He was responding to the US Ambassador for claiming that the 2022 presidential election was free and fair.
