Raila mourns Chabukati: My thoughts are with the entire family

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has sent a message of condolence to the family of the late Wafula Chebukati.

The former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson died on Thursday, February 20 while receiving treatment at a hospital in Nairobi.

In his message, Raila sympathised with the Chebukati family for the loss of a “son, father, husband and a bread winner.”

“Times like these are never easy and no amount of words and assurances of solidarity can ever fill the void left, but that is all we can offer,” Raila said, adding, “My thoughts are with the entire family, the widow mama Mary, sons Jonathan and Emmanuel at this difficult time.”

Chebukati died at the age of 63.

He served as the chairperson of the IEBC for a full term of six years.

He oversaw the 2017 General Election and the 2022 General Election, before retiring in January 2023.
