Raila Odinga mourns longtime aide George Oduor

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of his longtime aide and bodyguard, George Oduor.

Reports indicate that Oduor succumbed to a short illness while receiving treatment at a Nairobi hospital, where he had been admitted for over a week.

Oduor’s service to the Odinga family dates back to the late 1980s, and one of the earliest public records of his role was at the funeral of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga at Uhuru Park in 1994. Over the decades, his unwavering dedication to Raila and the ODM party earned him immense respect within political circles.

Raila, in a heartfelt tribute, described Oduor as a steadfast and dependable companion who stood by his side through Kenya’s political transitions.

“It is with profound shock and sadness that I announce the passing of my personal aide and bodyguard, George Oduor, this evening in Nairobi after a short illness,” Raila wrote.

“George has been a part of Jaramogi’s and my family since the late ’80s. We have stood, fallen, and risen together. He has been a vigilant, calm, confident, and extremely professional aide—dedicated to duty and a dependable rock on my side through tumultuous periods.”

“I will miss George, and I am sorry to the myriad friends who miss him already. To his wife, Carol George, his entire family, colleagues, and friends, I offer Mama Ida’s and the entire Jaramogi family’s sincere condolences at this devastating loss. May the Almighty rest his soul in eternal peace.”

Oduor’s three-decade commitment to Raila Odinga and the ODM Party leaves behind a lasting legacy of trust, loyalty, and sacrifice. His passing marks the end of an era in Odinga’s inner circle, leaving a void that will be deeply felt.
