Azimio leader Raila Odinga on Thursday, August 17 responded to US Ambassador Meg Whitman’s remarks that 2022 general elections in Kenya were free and fair.
Speaking during the Devolution Conference in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, Raila said the US Ambassador should stop meddling in the affairs of Kenyans or they will have her recalled.
“Tell ‘the rogue’ US Ambassador, that Kenya is not the United States and Kenya was not a colony of the United States,’
“Let her keep her mouth shut while here, otherwise, we can call for her recall back to the United States,” threatened Raila Odinga.
Raila noted that the street protests had helped the country in many ways, adding that even the current constitution of Kenya is a product of protests.
“We want to tell a rogue ambassador to leave Kenyans alone, if protests can lead to dialogue between Ichungwa and Kalonzo, everything is good with street protests,” noted former Prime Minister Raila Odinga
Raila’s remarks came after Meg Whitman maintained that the August 2022 General Election was the most credible poll the country has ever held.
Speaking during the opening of the Devolution Conference in Eldoret on Wednesday, Whitman said that the polls affirmed Kenya’s position as the most democratic State in the continent.
She cited incidences of both local and international observers agreeing with the poll results, as announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), well as the Supreme Court bench that unanimously declared President William Ruto as Kenya’s duly elected president.
“Kenya held, what many analysts and commentators say, was the free, fairest, and most credible election in Kenyan history,” she stated.
