Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana has urged ODM party leader Raila Odinga to support President William Ruto’s re-election bid in the 2027 general election.
Mungatana emphasized that for Raila to get full government support for his candidature for the African Union chairperson job, he should also support President Ruto’s re-election bid.
Speaking in Hola Town on Sunday February 18, 2024, Mungatana disclosed president Ruto’s commitment in ensuring Raila gets the AU job.
The Tana River Senator also recalled how Ruto supported Raila, who was the ODM presidential candidate in the 2007 general elections.
“In 2007, William Ruto supported you in your presidential bid, and now, 17 years later, in 2024, Ruto is instrumental in helping you secure the AU position. When the time comes in 2027, we urge you to also extend your support to President Ruto’s reelection,” said Mungatana.
In addition, the Senator noted that Kenya stands to benefit a lot if Raila becomes the AU chairperson.

For Raila Odinga to emerge victorious in his bid to become AU chairperson, he must get the support from majority of member states.
The AU chairperson plays a major role in international affairs including elections, conflicts and development in Africa and globally.
Although president Ruto has not publicly declared his support for Raila’s bid for the AU job, his close allies and the ruling party UDA have already declared their support.
