Raila Odinga Stadium to host 2025 Madaraka Day celebrations in Homa Bay

The 2025 Madaraka Day Celebrations will be held at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay Town, the Ministry of Interior has announced.

The theme of this year’s celebrations is: ‘Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs’.

Plans are underway to expand and rehabilitate Kabunde Airstrip and some identified road infrastructure within the area, in preparation to the national celebrations.

In addition, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said that the Stadium will be rehabilitated to have a cumulative capacity of 12,000 with contractors already on site.

PS Omollo on Thursday, February 27 led the National Celebrations Steering Committee in having extensive deliberations with the local political leaders led by Governor Gladys Wanga and MP Kaluma.

The celebrations, which mark Kenya’s attainment of self-governance, will spotlight the theme of the Blue Economy and Maritime Development — making Homa Bay, with its strategic location along Lake Victoria, an ideal host for the event.

PS Omollo emphasized the significance of showcasing the county’s potential in fisheries, transport, and water-based tourism, aligning with the government’s broader vision of harnessing aquatic resources for sustainable growth.
