Azimio leader Raila Odinga has visited his former school, the Herder Institute where he interacted with current students during his tour in Germany.
This is one of the reasons why Raila has a strong connection to Germany.
In a statement posted on his X account, Raila noted that he was so pleased to visit his former school.
“Visiting the Herder Institute, my alma mater in Leipzig, Germany, brought back memories of my high school days.
“From the familiar corridors to returning to my previous house on Lumumba Street and meeting with today’s students.
Grateful for the journey and the enduring community at Herder,” stated Raila Odinga.

The ODM party leader noted that the visit to his former school rekindled the memories of those days when he was a student at Herder Institute and University of Leipzig.
Raila was among a few blacks who had a chance to study in East Germany, due to his father Jaramogi Oginga Odinga’s ties to the European nation before the fall of the Berlin Wall.
The ODM party leader has on various occasions talked about studying in Germany and how he eventually graduated from the University of Leipzig.
Raila is among top ranking world leaders attending the World Forum on Future of Democracy at the Allianz Forum in Berlin.
Raila’s visit to his former school, comes at a time when his critics were alleging that he does not have the academic qualifications for the African Union chairperson job.
This was after he declared interest in taking over from the current AU chairperson Moussa Faki, whose terms ends in early 2025.
For instance, Lawyer Miguna Miguna had alleged that Raila Odinga lacks the academic qualifications for the AU chairperson job.

A similar debate about Raila’s academic qualifications emerged in August 2022 when he contested for the presidency.
