Azimio leader Raila Odinga on Thursday June 6, 2024 supported calls for ‘one man, one vote, one shilling’ revenue sharing conversation as proposed during Limuru III meetings.
Speaking after receiving a copy of Limuru III resolutions at Chungwa House, Nairobi, Raila said that the proposal will promote equality and fairness in sharing of revenue in the country.
At the same time, the ODM party leader compared deputy president Rigathi Gachagua to Saul, saying that Gachagua has seen the light and is now Paul on the one man one vote one shilling push.
“This ‘one one, one vote, one shilling’ debate is meant to ensure each Kenyan gets a fair share of national resources. I agree with it totally. I am not a populist,” said Raila.
“Am working with everybody in this country, specifically Rigathi Gachagua is a member of the government and as you know yesterday the government pledged they are going to support my bid at the AUC and I thank them,” he added.
The ODM party leader added that devolution is about equitable sharing of resources, which means taking into account the number of people living in an area.
However, he explained that the ‘one man, one shilling’ debate has been misinterpreted by some politicians, who argue that it may lead to discrimination in some parts of the country.
He added that the issue of allocating resources to constituencies in the country based on population distribution was part of the proposals in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
