The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party has condemned an attack on the rural home of Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah.
Reports say that unknown goons raided the home of Senator Omtatah in Kwang’amor village on Wednesday, April 3 night, seeking to know the lawmaker’s whereabouts.
The Raila Odinga-led party has called on the government to initiate immediate investigations into the claims.
“We condemn in the strongest terms possible the continued harassment of the Senator of Busia Okiya Omtatah, the latest being the raid on his rural home by unknown people who were demanding to know his whereabouts,” the party said on Thursday, April 4.
ODM insists that every Kenyan — including leaders — must be guaranteed their safety at all times.
Governor condemns attack too…
Busia Governor Paul Otuoma what he says is “state of lawlessness”, asking the relevant security organs to address the issue promptly.
“In light of this development, the Senator should be accorded proper security, even as we call for thorough investigations into this case,” Governor Otuoma says.
In an interview with The Star, Senator Omtatah said the goons harassed his relatives for close to to an hour, demanding that they disclose his location.
“We do not know who those people were but we suspect they were in the compound for some time because they claimed they knew the compound very well. I left home on Tuesday evening after a series of functions only to be called at 2 am to be told there were people in my compound looking for me,” the senator told The Star.
Confirming the incident, the area OCPD Alice Tedanyong said the a police report has been made and investigations have been launched to find the perpetrators who injured one of the relatives.
